HP has extended its workstation line-up with a new mobile system claimed to offer the full performance required by mobile professionals in a stylish and lightweight form factor, according to the firm.
Available immediately in selected EMEA countries, the HP Omen Pro is based on 4th Generation Intel Core i7 quad-core processors and ships with up to 16GB of memory, up to 512GB of solid state drive (SSD) storage and an Nvidia Quadro K1100M graphics accelerator.
Based on a similar design to HP's Omen gaming laptop, the new system also features a 15.6in full HD (1920x1080) touchscreen and weighs in at 2.12kg, with a thickness of 19.9mm, according to HP.
This makes the Omen Pro somewhat similar to the ZBook 15u workstation that HP announced in January, although that system is styled by the firm as a 'workstation ultrabook'.
"As the leader in the workstation industry, we continue to develop customer-inspired innovative solutions that solve real-world business needs," said Ori Bergman, director of commercial and retail solutions in HP's EMEA Printing and Personal Systems Group.
The processor in the Omen Pro is a Core i7-4720HQ, clocked at 2.6GHz and with a maximum turbo speed of 3.6GHz. The storage is available in two options: a 256GB or 512GB version of HP's Z Turbo Drive that connects to a PCI Express slot for extra performance.
HP also updated its SSD technology with the HP Z Turbo Drive G2, which makes use of the NVMe protocol designed to make the most of flash storage to achieve more than twice the performance of the first generation Z Turbo Drive.
It also delivers four times the performance of traditional Sata SSDs at a comparable cost, according to HP.
As befits a corporate platform, the Omen Pro is supplied with Windows 7 Professional as standard. Pricing for the HP Omen Pro starts at £2,047 excluding VAT.
